Every daily.surf order funds the collection of ocean-bound plastic: one plastic bottle's worth for every 50¢ you pay for your shirts, after any discount and not counting shipping or tax. That's 10% of the price, rounded down to whole bottles, so a $25.00 shirt funds 50.
We pay for it through GoodAPI, whose collection is verified by Plastic Bank. Ocean-bound plastic is plastic collected on land near coastlines, in places such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil and Egypt, before it can wash into the sea. Collectors are paid for what they bring in, and every kilogram is weighed and logged.
A "bottle" is a measure of weight, not a count of actual bottles: the collected plastic is weighed, and each bottle stands for the weight of a typical plastic bottle.
It's funded when your order is paid. If your order is refunded, we cancel the funding for the refunded part while GoodAPI still allows it, which is usually within a few weeks of your order (never more than about 30 days). After that, the plastic it funded stays funded and is collected.
